The project focused on a unifying artistic intervention that harmonised with the existing, highly diverse functional architecture at the Klinikum rechts der Isar hospital in Munich. Here, we saw opportunities to create a distinctive character and a new spatial atmosphere through the skillful use of colour.

Die Arbeit Farb.Feld.

We developed the work 'Farb.Feld.Raum' conceptually around the key terms ‘difference in perspective’ and ‘situating’. The visual ideas refer to the materiality and the positioning of the body in a space that explores the idea of existing as a body in the world as seamlessly as possible.

The dominant wall in the Osthof is used as the ideal site for a painting that is visible from the entrance and also has an impact on the interior of the building. The design is based on the principle of anamorphosis: from certain marked vantage points, distorted forms appear as clear, floating images.

The black-and-white structure is complemented by coloured elements, creating a dynamic, spatially effective composition. Depending on the viewing angle, the image changes constantly; in the process, the rigid wall dissolves visually and becomes a play of space, time, colour and movement that also influences light and reflections throughout the surrounding area.

In contrast to the rather graphic appearance of our mural design, we aimed for a distinctly painterly character in the execution. A key element here is the coloured undercoat, tailored to each individual panel. This allows for a lightness in the painting that transcends rigid contours. The substrate visually merges with the final layer of paint, giving rise to the work’s true quality.
